I technically also have Pikka’s Finescale Tracks, but they’re enabled purely for the signals. I like the smaller signals it gives, and unfortunately I have no idea if there’s a GRF out there that adds just the signals, because sometimes combining tracktypes gets a bit weird.Oh, and to get my Locomotives to be in the shade of black that they are, I’m using the Mauve-to-Black GRF I found somewhere on here.” OpenTTD 1.9.0 added an awesome feature to set company colours per vehicle group. The title screen from OpenTTD 1.3. In the AI/Game Script dialog, you can select a game script and set its configuration parameters. Each script can add their own configuration options. NoCarGoal is a game script that adds goals for total amount of cargo transported during a time period. When the time is up, you either win gold, silver, bronze or lose the game. In this screenshot the RealGrowth game script is used to replace the default OpenTTD town growth mechanism with a new one specially created to work with the FIRS NewGRF. Silicon Valley is a game script that will challenge you with some interesting goals. Find this game script and many more through the Online Content Download button in your game. You can also write your own game scripts. Using a Game Script, and a pre-designed scenario, it is possible for anyone to create an in-game tutorial. This screenshot shows the “Beginner Tutorial”. Click Play Scenario in your main menu and then use the Check Online Content button to download the tutorial.

Using trucks to transport cargo makes for a completely different challenge. Citizens considered it a good idea to move the airports to a nearby island. Are you SURE we have used every tile? A maze for trains. (BIG, 2.9MB) A complete map filled with nice little details. A high way leading into the desert city. “We need a new inter-city transport system.” Are you up for the challenge? A very big station. A small station for a factory. At the same time, organize the rail network to keep a good flow. Building in hills brings its own set of problems. An island destined to be filled with houses. OpenGFX (but TTRS streets) in a temperate environment. NARS2. Singeplayer game. Crowded passenger station and a wood feeder service in a growing town. A mega-city in the making. You need careful planning to provide good services everywhere. Using long and high bridges to cross valleys. Closeup of a 2x3 track railway connection. View on a desert island town, using the free OpenGFX base graphics. Servicing cities and industries can result in many tracks. Notice the use of trams for passenger transport between both cities.

Big Norwegian city using the OpenGFX graphics. Make your very own drive through islands in seconds! (Be prepared to be quite unpopular) How crowded can one make a station? ICE arriving at the lovely station of Seechester City Nord. Very crowded factory where the trains can’t handle the output. An architectural masterpiece and lovely eyecandy are the serpentines up the slope to Kulmstadt in an alpine landscape. A noble company only interested in transported food! A large industrial 8 platform roll-on/roll-off station, that is connected to a 4-track network by means of dual entrances and dual exits. This keeps things flowing smoothly.

A local train from the DBSETXL finally arrives at Flensberg station after a long journey to drop off its passangers.We also see some internationalisation in Swedish. A mix of original and NewGRF stations. It has been the lifelong dream of many to be able to build harbours in TTDLX. Now you can! Well, not real harbours but designs that resemble harbours which is just as good :).On this very busy screen we see some Brush ‘AL 10’ trains hauling wood (at the bottom); at the top Bursh ‘Type 4’transporting livestock. A luxury oceanliner is waiting for passangers and a futuristic JTech J-1 Roku from the excellent AV8 set is leaving the screen at high speed on the right. Japan National Railway’s Fuji station using the absolutely stunning Japanese trainset.Also showing are newstations support and electric rail. Shin-Nagabashi Shinkansen station. The ringline connects the Shinkansen with the express trains from Fuji-Station. Taking your focus away from this beautiful screen, I’d like to point out some new features of 0.5.0:We all know about newstations, but here we can see i18n in action. Japanese text with the help of the Freetype library and TrueType font ‘MS Mincho’; and an enhanced chatbox for allowing more input. A fierce battle over water-control, we see that YES, you can play competitively with ships.We can see some of the players chatting in the lower-left and the company league thable, showing ship-man in the lead. This picture focuses on some of the new GUI elements of 0.5.0. For the first time we see the in-game NewGRF gui allowing graphical GRF selection, a huge step towards user friendliness. A new colour scheme window, supporting 2CC’s (Two Company Colours) is also present; effects can be seen on the Fokker F.VII in the aircraft list. From the vehicle lists (or the depot for some actions) you can now mass-manage your fleet. Mass start/stop, sell, send to depot, etc. all just a click away. Pretty nifty. Making use of a test version of the magnifique AUSSET and what became known as SAC’s (stolen) trees we see an excellent track design and good use of available trains and newstations. In the picture coming from the most respected server for OpenTTD, “Brianetta’s Standard”, a risky business is going on. Flooding always a possibility, a reinforced dam holds back a huge reservoir. Several water pumps draw water off for transport all across the desert, promising mountains of gold for those daring enough to supply the large number of plantations and farms out there. Elrails, UK Renewal Set and newstations. Wow, this is just an awesome industrial area See all that pollution of the coal plant. Allemont has seen a massive influx of tourists these last years seeking winter adventures. At least 2 new residential centres are being built at the moment and the end is still not in sight.The local contractor, seeing opportunities, is hard at work to accommodate this expansion; just now a new bridge is being planned. The ‘measurement tooltip’ (Patches > Interface) shows accurate information for the tool. Advancement in technology has also made the ‘build on steep slopes (double foundations)’ feature possible, as seen below some of the tracks. It not only looks great, but is also environmentally friendly!

Even in the time where maglevs roam the world people want to take a hovercraft to move around. A very busy part of the Deutsche Bahn’s network. A complex four way junction in a sandy desert. Some industries just can get enough of producing cargo. You can also build complex networks without many presignals and hope for the best. The metropoles in this map are growing towards each other; a few decades later the forests will be gone. Massive, just massive…and it can be thanks to OpenTTD.Large factories average just under 20,000 units. 1,126 ships transport passengers and mail to grow city sizes. 26 aircraft carry valuables to a central location where they pick up valuables from other banks based on landing order (Bottom-left). Just to show you the variaty of platforms OpenTTD runs on. It’s not just Windows/Linux. The game runs on basically every platform that has an SDL implementation. There are even unofficial ports to the XBox, PDA’s, PSP, etc. Chat messages coming in during a multiplayer network game. Lake Punica National Park is an excellent choice for short, or even long trips from the nearby town of Lavito. Being a protected national treasure since the early 1940’s, it is an ideal place for relaxation. For people seeking adventures, the Sanarit Crater is just a short distance away and will surely pose a welcome challenge. Saint Berdetta is painstakingly crafted over the course of a year during an internship in Afrika by an enthousiastic OpenTTD user. It is not often one can see towns designed with so much love. This just shows what magnificiently detailed scenarios are possible with ‘little’ time and effort. Different NewGRF trains. As you can see you don’t need trains to do the transporting. I would call people mad if I were the type of person to do that, but I’m not so I will leave it up to the reader to form his/her own opinion about users playing toyland. It is not enough that it is toyland, but multiplayer toyland? :O Trains transporting from their cargo primary industries to secondary industies so it can be made into goods. Towns in the tropics don’t need to be small. Bridges can now span deep valleys, which makes many more and more realistic scenarios possible.

The idyllic scenery of South Africa in its better times. The Africa scenario, which is included with the game, is highly detailed and sure to pose a challenge due to the scarcity of industries. The trains are supplied by the famous UK Renewal set (UKRS). One might wonder what a coal mine is doing in the middle of a city, but back in the fifties environmental laws were not that strict. A big station where people can transfer from the normal DB train services to it’s transrapid network. A DBset transrapid terminus station. The base of operation of a young statup company. OpenTTD has its own window management as it runs on so many platforms. This picture has been stuffed to unplayability with windows. We can see company income, finances and performance rating (which is used as a score when you finish the game). We can also see two construction-toolbars, with the tree-tool selected. On the left side is the list of trains, which will be sorted by total capacity.A bit to the right we can see a relief-map, which can be toggled to show various states (relief, transport routes, ownership) and allows you to scroll around the ‘universe’. On the right side we have zoomed into a Concorde making a hefty profit judging by the details window. Lastly an almost invisble detailed industry window. The minimap allows you to quickly see the whole network you have build. To make OpenTTD more internationally appealing, we already have over 20 translations you can choose from. In this particular screenshot the language is set to Norwegian. We can see the settings window where you can change the language amongst others (item Språk) and a failed attempt to try and sabotage a competitor’s rails. The multiplayer window. From here we can get a list of servers either from the internet or local LAN. These can be sorted to your liking. The green blobs mean you can join the server, passworded servers are shown with a lock. To add your favourite server click ‘Add server’ and fill in the IP.
